The Association of Levee Boards of Louisiana is an
organization that brings levee districts from all over the state of
Louisiana together to address the problems and concerns of each district.
As an
Association, we come together to hash out these problems and to bring ideas
together. Sometimes there are duplicating problems in different districts.
When the Association convenes we are able to find solutions that are
mutually beneficial for all the districts in Louisiana.
One
advantage to having a strong Association is the experience and knowledge we
receive from our individual members. The Association is composed of people
from the various communities we serve, so they recognize potential problems
first.
Strong
cooperation is a key to our success in protecting Louisiana. I can never
recall a single time when a levee district needed something and the other
districts of the Association failed to support it.
The most
important issue facing the Association right now is coastal erosion. It
must be on the forefront of our efforts. South Louisiana is sinking and
while we can't do much about that, there are things we can do to protect
our people. We are currently working to raise levees and the Association
will continue to work with legislators and congressmen to secure funding
for these efforts.
Our
Association is comprised of knowledgeable and capable people, who are adept
at presenting the Corps of Engineers and politicians with the facts and
figures of this enormous endeavor.
Having a
strong, unified Association will greatly benefit Louisiana as the more
people you have behind an issue, the more likely it is that funding will be
approved.
As
president of the Association I pledge to keep working hard on the problems
we currently face on a daily basis such as labor management, equipment
purchase and maintenance as well as compliance with state and federal
regulation and our national issues.
In
Louisiana flood control has and will continue to be a major concern, but I
hope to provide the leadership to maintain the positive momentum we have
created. I see the efforts of the Association paying off more and more as
people are becoming more aware of the critical issues in our great state.
